GALLLERI F15 - NORWAY

Fukt magazine is proud to present a selection of uncanny, poetic, hilarious, disturbing and superficially simplistic stories based on drawing and collage. Fukt is a magazine dedicated to drawing and with an addiction to animation; in 2006 the Animation Issue was launched with a DVD of short animations.

Now, when Fukt goes screening, it is with the exquisite exploration of time in Ocean Wave by Jannicke Kristoffersen, the weird world of David Shrigley & Chris Shepherd, Kristofer Ström's mesmerizing stop-motion, the morbid tale of Marco Raparelli, Carina Randløv's simplistic and peculiar collages, Hilde Tørdal's teasing twisted face and the odd dream world of Elias Araya.

Elias Araya
Sigh and Settle (2004) 1:00 min.

In the captivating animations of Elias Araya, various forms of metamorphosis are taken place. In a state of flux, houses, horses and landscapes are transforming and disappearing. With elements from everyday life, Araya creates a surreal world where logic is secondary. Elias Araya was born in 1978 in Gothenburg, where he now lives and works.
Jannicke Kristoffersen
Ocean Wave (2007) 1:11

Kristoffersen's work to date has mainly consisted of drawings, installations and animations. In all her work the interest lies within exploring our mediated society - how the media shapes our world and the way we live in it, thus all the motifs are derived from televison, films and the Internet. In her animations, the drawings become images moving in time, exploring abstractions such as our sense of time and space. By mixing and remixing these images, extending and repeating actions, narrative is opened up. Jannicke Kristoffersen was born in 1977, lives and works in Oslo.

Who I Am and What I Want (2005) 7:23

A scribbled, strangely funny but highly unsettling examination of the human condition. The story of a man who bares his emotions, history, hang ups and desires in all of their dysfunctional absurdity, then leaves us to assemble not only his identity but to question our own. David Shrigley was born in 1968, lives and works in Glasgow. His works has received recognition through numerous publications and exhibitions. Chris Sheperd was born in 1966, lives and works in London. Sheperd has animated and directed multiple short films, animated series and commercials since 1989. This is Shrigley and Shepherd's first collaboration. Production www.slinkypics.com
Carina Randløv
Oh my gosh... (2007)
0:07 min + 0:09 + 0:33 (all together, 0:49 min)

By using her collages and drawings as a starting point, Carina Randløv developed three short animations during a residency in Istanbul in 2007. In the animations, diverse cultures co-exist and interact simultaneously. Randløv points out details and voids to reveal a humorous and unpretentious approach to daily life in the city. She composes city cultures where every space is utilized for a specific purpose.
Carina Randløv was born in 1975 in Copenhagen, lives and works in Berlin www.carinarandlov.de

Marco Raparelli
Ristorante Italia (2007) 4:36 min

Narration is the principle characteristic in the video animations of Raparelli. However, rather than a point of departure, it is the consequence of a deviation of themes that are represented by very precise drawings which transmit or evoke sensations. In Ristorante Italia the viewer is eyewitness to the restaurant’s normal activities that occur without beginning or end. Only the eventual arrival of evening suggests possible relief or a truce. Marco Raparelli was born in 1975 in Rome, Italy, where he lives and works.

Kristofer Ström
Familjen (2006) 3:35 min + Minilogue 4:10 min (2006)

Kristofer Ström’s father built him a drum machine when he was 10 and since then music has played an important part in his animations. His working-progress is mostly random, unplanned, and a stream of consciousness. His animation Minilogue has been downloaded from Youtube over 1,800.000 times since November last year. Ström has won numerous awards, among others the Cad for best budget music video. Kristofer Ström was born in 1977, lives and works in Malmö, Sweden

Hilde Tørdal
PØH! (2003) 0:16 min

Tørdal's animations are about frustration, loosing your temper and how to deal with it. PØH! portrays an arrogant and childish way of teasing in a teenage sort of way. The short film leaves you somewhere between being mocked and amused. Tørdal is mainly working in the fields of installation, drawing/animation and character design. Hilde Tørdal was born in 1972 in Asker, lives and works in Oslo
